Brats Day Nursery, Corby


Requirements:

The customer had an existing mulch play surface which was causing staining to the children’s clothes due to the release of carbon black from the rubber shred used, and required a solution to stop this from happening. 

Solution:

Edspace levelled the existing surface and dealt with some soft spots due to settlement of the base-works and installed a new artificial grass surface, using the existing mulch surface as a shockpad under the grass.

Castlewood Primary School, Southwater


Requirements:

Remove existing artificial grass track, and replace with blue wet-pour rubber daily mile track.

Solution:

Edspace installed a 1.3m wide, 197.6m Daily Mile Track with blue wet-pour rubber surfacing. This track was designed to run around the perimeter of the school field and requires 8 laps to complete the challenge distance of 1 mile.

Boreham Primary School, Chelmsford


Requirements:

Boreham Primary School required a trail suitable for Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS) use.

Solution:

Edspace designed and installed an Early Years Trail comprised of step logs, balance beams, step stilts and grass topped step boxes and traverse bench. In the centre of the trail we installed bench seating.

Livingstone Primary School, Barnet


Requirements:

After previously having our wet-pour rubber surfacing installed in their playground, Livingstone Primary School requested a play boat design from Edspace in addition to a ‘meadow area’ and perimeter fencing replacement.

Solution:

Edspace designed and installed a timber playboat and an artificial grass ‘meadow area’. Existing fencing was taken down and replaced with 2m mesh fencing.

Bridgewater Primary School, Northampton


Requirements:

Bridgewater Primary School wanted to create an outdoor learning environment that would seat thirty pupils.

Solution:

We installed a 5m Octagonal Outdoor Classroom with a felt, shingle tile roof. To provide increased weather protection the Outdoor Classroom was designed with half-height enclosure and incorporated internal bench seating to cater for thirty pupils.

Beacon Nursery, St Helens


Requirements:

Beacon Nursery wanted to make use of their first floor terrace to provide a safe outdoor area for the children to play in. 

Solution:

Edspace installed a wet-pour rubber surface throughout the entirety of the terrace. A road and hopscotch graphic was incorporated into the surface, providing additional games and colour to the area.

St Peter’s C.E. Academy, Raunds


Requirements:

St Peter’s Academy required the removal and replacement of an existing an existing trim trail. They also wanted to add safer surfacing surrounding the trim trail which also provided all-weather access from the playground.

Solution:

We removed the existing trim trail and installed a Timber Active Trail. Wet-pour rubber surfacing was laid in the surrounding area and connecting the trail to the playground, allowing for all-weather use.

Swaffham CE Primary Academy, Swaffham


Requirements:

Swaffham Primary had an existing trim trail with no surfacing and wanted to allow for all-weather use all year. They also wanted to install a small climber for their EYFS children.

Solution:

We installed a low-level, jumbled climber with surrounding wet-pour rubber safer surfacing. This connected the existing trim trail, and the new climber and allowed for access off the playground.

Gobowen Primary School, Gobowen


Requirements:

Following the installation of Phase 1 of the nursery development, we were asked to provide a design for Phase 2.

Solution:

Our design included a Timber Framed Freeflow Canopy in which we integrated a full-height rear enclosure. Additionally, we laid wet-pour rubber surfacing incorporating a red road graphic and a parking bay design. We also installed a hexagonal Outdoor Classroom in addition to Perimeter Fencing Screens. Our Perimeter Fencing Screens prevent onlookers from seeing into the playground while still allowing the children to see out.

St Mildred’s Infant School, Broadstairs


Requirements:

St Mildred’s requested a survey to install an all-weather daily exercise track, without impacting their other field-based activities.

Solution:

Following an on-site survey, we suggested a route plan with a route length of 112m. The shape and length of the track ensured that it did not negatively impact other activities. It also provided an all-weather facility that can be used by the whole school, every day.

Collingwood College, Camberley


Requirements:

Collingwood College was looking for a solution to provide shelter for their pupils during break-out sessions.

Solution:

Edspace installed three 5m hexagonal outdoor shelters with internal perimeter seating. These structures provide a sheltered area for pupils to spend social time during break or lunchtime. They also encourage pupils to spend time outdoors during their breakout sessions.

Ashland’s Primary School, Ilkley


Requirements:

Ashland’s had an area of unused grass that they wanted to develop as an outdoor learning space and break-out area.

Solution:

Edspace installed a 5m hexagonal outdoor classroom with an integral store, along with a 5m x 2m rectangular outdoor classroom. Both incorporate half-height solid enclosure panels with drop-down covers. The outdoor classrooms are positioned around an area of all-weather surfacing, including a fixed central workstation and bench seating. The completed installation was opened by Alan Titchmarsh who was a former pupil at the school.

King Edwin Primary School, Edwinstowe


Requirements:

The school wanted to develop its outdoor space to provide additional outdoor learning and active facilities across the site.

Solution:

Edspace installed an all-weather Daily Mile track, along with a complete re-surface of the existing play area. We incorporated artificial grass areas with the safety surface, as well as a new 4m Hexagonal outdoor classroom.

Foxhills Junior School, Colbury


Requirements:

Foxhills looked to install an active area in the playground and requested a design to complement the existing playground layout. This was an addition to the forest school shelter, Daily Mile track and artificial grass break-out area previously installed.

Solution:

Following an on-site survey, Edspace suggested Outdoor Gym equipment be installed into the existing tarmac playground. The equipment was surrounded by an artificial grass surface.

Abbey Mead Primary Academy, Leicester


Requirements:

Abbey Mead had an existing timber trim trail which was passed its best. The school wanted to remove the existing trail and extend the area. Enabling all-weather use along with the creation of an outdoor learning area was also a priority.

Solution:

The existing trail was removed along with the safer surface. The area was extended so that it used all the available space. New wet-pour rubber and artificial grass surface were also installed. The artificial grass surrounded two rectangular outdoor classrooms to provide break-out areas along with shade and shelter.

Gobown Primary School, Gobowen


Requirements:

The school contacted us as an existing customer, with a requirement to develop the existing outdoor play space. The existing space had a variety of surfaces including grass, tarmac and concrete, along with redundant fixed play equipment.

Solution:

Our design was split into two phases to cause minimal disruption to the school. Phase 1 was to remove the existing play equipment and muddy grass areas. We then provided a level and extended play surface with a wet pour safer surface, incorporating 4 colour zoned areas. Phase 2 allowed for the installation of additional safer surfacing, an outdoor classroom and an all-weather freeflow canopy.

Livingstone Primary School, Barnet


Requirements:

Livingstone Primary requested a design for safer surfacing around an existing timber play unit.

Solution:

Our design outlined wet-pour rubber safer surfacing, installed at various depths to suit the fall height requirements of the equipment. We used a variety of colours to complement the theme of the equipment and future development plans of the school.

Eileen Wade Primary School, Huntingdon


Requirements:

The school contacted Edspace as we had previously installed a Daily Mile Track and outdoor classroom. The school had an area of natural grass adjacent to the tarmac playground which they wanted to surface. This would allow for all-weather use as well as extend the playground. In addition to this, the school wanted a piece of fixed play equipment suitable for all age ranges.

Solution:

After removing the grass area, we installed a new sub-base. Alongside this, we installed a whole class climber and the appropriate wet pour rubber safer surface.

Hinton St. George Primary School, Crewkerne


Requirements:

An outdoor classroom that was useable in all weathers.

Solution:

Edspace installed a 5m Hexagonal outdoor classroom with half-height solid enclosure panels. We also incorporated drop-down canvas panels with windows and a zipped entrance door. When the weather allows the panels are simply rolled up and secured at the eaves.

University of South Wales, Pontypridd


Requirements:

The university wanted to create an outdoor study / quiet area in an existing grass area. They required a simple shelter without a floor.

Solution:

Edspace installed a 5m hexagonal outdoor classroom with a half-height solid enclosure and no floor. The outdoor classroom was also fitted with internal bench seating.

St. Luke’s School, Redbourn


Requirements:

The school required some additional active space and a Daily Mile track.

Solution:

The installed design allowed for an all-weather Daily Mile track around the perimeter of the field with 4 break-out areas. These break-out areas enabled additional fitness stations to be installed. To supplement this, a 20m x 10m artificial grass multi-use games area was installed in the centre of the track.

Bradfield Primary School, Manningtree


Requirements:

The Bradfield Primary PTA contacted Edspace to request a design and fixed price quotation for a new outdoor classroom.

Solution:

Edspace installed a 5m hexagonal Outdoor classroom with half-height solid enclosure panels and perimeter bench seating. The floor was timber decked with an integral access ramp and entrance planters.

Somerset County Council


Requirements:

The local authority contacted us requiring a design for an outdoor classroom to be installed at Westonzoyland Primary School. The design was to be based on our standard 5m hexagonal structure with internal modification to allow for workstations.

Solution:

Edspace designed a 5m structure with a half-height solid enclosure and central activity table. We moved the benching inwards to allow for a lectern shelf to be installed. This enabled the children to either sit facing inwards or turn around and use the lectern shelf as a desk.

Ralph Sadleir Academy, Puckeridge


Requirements:

Edspace were asked to provide a route plan and installation quote for a Daily Mile track and access paths.

Solution:

Following a site survey, we produced a design and route plan, taking into account the existing field-based activities and access. We installed an all-weather track with a length of 321.86m. This required the completion of 4 laps to achieve the target distance of 1 mile. In addition to the track, two access paths were installed to allow access to the track in wet weather.
